Keep Calm and Lace Shit. Inspired by the original Keep Calm and Carry On design created by the British government during the beginning of WW2. I’ve seen this design customized many different ways. I, like most people, started seeing the original design recently the past year or so due to it’s resurfacing. Being a fan of typography and overall graphic design I looked into the origins and saw that it was now public domain, explaining all the variations.
I started messing around with the concept of the design at first purely as a joke with ODNY’s David Toro a few months ago. I saw the design again recently and decided to try to put a rollerblader’s point of view to it. I knew I wanted to use the term “lace” as it’s something we all say. However, the use of the word “shit” was an unsure choice.
I try not to create any designs based on rollerblading that will contain any profanity as a lot of bladers are fairly young. At first I was simply going to use “Lace It” but it was too similar to a future design and I felt that “It” would be too specific…if that makes any sense. In this day and age “shit” refers to anything and any object so I felt it worked better. I also feel like using the word in the phrase makes it more effective and inspirational overall.
